Oh dear, sadly not, but a very well-fought fight, & an exciting match. Maybe next year.

Is it okay if I introduce myself here seeing as I've just joined? I'm Catriona, I'm 24 & I'm from Glasgow, Scotland. I saw Alex at Wimbledon 2002 & thought he looked like a good player - as we're about the same age I thought it was amazing he was playing professional tennis & I'd just had to leave university due to illness. (My cheery period!) Anyway, I've watched out for him since (which, thanks to not-great coverage of other tournaments, has been mainly once a year at Wimbledon) & I'm glad to have now found a website where I can get more information. Hope to be on here often!

Absolutely. But like I said, he fought well, he's got nothing to be ashamed of. (Not that I'm saying I think he WILL be feeling that way, I really don't know, but he shouldn't. God, I'm not expressing myself well today, am I?)There's Djokovic, the world number 3, out in Round 2 - incredible, I'm disappointed cos I really like him.  Sad  Oh well, my point is that that was only one round further on, & whatever it was that happened to Nole ('bad day at the office', he called it), he was really lacklustre whereas Alex certainly wasn't. Wonder who else is going to make the semis then.

i think he will have mixed feelings. he will know he played well, but will be disapointed that he played badly on the big points, esp in the 4th set.
the media aslo may effect him and he must learn to turn a blind eye to that.
the issue of his funding is still up the in the air and of course that will weigh on him. perhaps the fact that bolelli today bt the 15th seed gonzo will work in alex's favour.

as for wimby yes there really have been some shcoks, i expect to hear more calls from the top players to extend the gap between the franch and wimby ans it really is too squashed. even rafa wants more grass events.
ok grass helpe the big servers but clay helps the super fit grinders.

Yes, it really is all so squashed together, but I'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to reorganise the timings of however many tournaments it would take to give them more of a gap. Djokovic said yesterday that he was really tired, & no wonder! Semis at the French, final at Queens - phew.

As for the media, I fume when I see the kind of comments they can come up with - the papers I looked at this morning were mostly being pretty spiteful about Djokovic. (Is 'Serbs you right' one of the most pathetic headlines ever or what?) I totally ignore what they say, unless I'm actually looking for information. I suppose it must be difficult for the players themselves to ignore it, though I'd imagine they'd all try - after all, they know themselves much better than reporters do.

Oh dear, just seen the mixed doubles result - obviously I didn't see it, but I've been following the score on the Wimbledon slamtracker for the last one & a half sets, & it looks like a really well-fought fight. Better luck next time, Alex & Mel!

yes a little dispapointed as they were ahead in all of the sets, however i also heard that mel might have been carrying a bit of an injury into the match.

so thats wimby over for alex for 08. hopefully will have a better 09!

Absolutely - always optimistic. Can't believe Sharapova's out - first Djokovic, now her, who'll be the next big name to go out?
