Alex was edged out in the 2nd qualifying round for this week's Sunrise super-challenger, losing 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Serbia's Dusan Vemic, a player ranked 200 places lower.
Alex's campaign in Sunrise started superbly with an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 win over American Scoville Jenkins (who'd beaten him earlier this year in Delray Beach), and any demons remaining from his final qualifying round collapse against Lukas Dlouhy the week before, seemed to have disappeared.
However, Vemic is an opponent Alex will regard as definately beatable and he'll be frustrated at being unable to close out the match. Alex served for it at 5-4 in the 3rd but Vemic fought back and won the last 3 games. As Alex said afterwards "I had lots of chances today, but just didn't take them."
He now heads to Miami where he'll attempt to qualify for next week's masters series event. He'll be joined by coach Peter Lundgren
