Rd1: A Bogdanovic bt T Smycek 6-3, 7-5

British no 3 Alex Bogdanovic moved into round 2 of both singles and doubles this week's Tallahassee 50K challenger. He enjoyed a comfortable 7-5, 6-3 win over American wildcard Tim Smyczek. After 2 months of competing almost entirely in ATPs, Alex is hoping that the experience gained will pay dividends as he moves back down to the challenger circuit, looking to rack up some points ahead of the clay-court season.

In the doubles, Alex teamed up with Italian Andrea Stoppini, and beat Francis and Hahn of teh USA by 6-4 6-4.

Alex lost in rd1 of this challenger last year to American Zack Fleishman and he'll be relieved that Fleishman is in the opposite half of the draw

In rd2 Alex will face Bobby Reynolds who brushed aside big serving John-Paul Fruttero 6-1, 6-2. Reynolds was regarded as a big prospect for American tennis in 2005 when he broke the top 100 but he never got higher than 92 and has since slipped back down the top 200s though he's still well established in the doubles top 100. He started 2007 impressively down under, qualifying for the Aussie Open and coming close to a first round victory, ultimately losing in 5 sets to Andreas Seppi. It's a match which on paper, Alex should win but it's definately a potential banana skin as Alex has a poor record in Tallahassee while Reynolds is at his best on the US hard courts, winning a challenger last autumn and making the semis in Tallahassee last year.

In the doubles quarter- finals, Alex and Andrea will play the winners of the first round match between 4th seeds Levy and Sanguinetti and Evans and Oudsema.

Alex once again found himself unable to put back to back wins together as he came up against the in form American, who has since progressed to the semi finals without dropping a set. Alex has not put a run of wins together since Las Vegas in February and will be hoping he can turn that around as he heads to Valencia, California, for his next event, a challenger in which he reached the quarter finals last year.
