Alex in action during his rd3 match against Richard Gasquet at the French Open juniors. Alex had beaten Davor Kuseta 6-1, 6-3 and Yordan Kanev 6-2, 7-5 during the first couple of rounds but unsurprisingly he lost 6-3, 6-4 to Gasquet, the tournament favourite having done well in ATP clay events earlier in May.

Alex was given a wildcard into Wimbledon and received an extremely tricky draw against France's Nicolas Escude, a quality grass court player who had beaten the likes of Lleyton Hewitt in previous years. Alex looked on course for a shock upset when he took the first set 6-4 but he wasn't able to maintain that level and Escude fought back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory
