Alex in action in the 2004 Aussie Open qualifying, he beat 27th seed Razvan Sabau in rd1, 6-4, 6-2. His coach was delighted with the performance, he said that it had been a tough couple of weeks for Alex who had travelled to Adelaide and Sydney but had just missed the qualifying cut for both tournaments. He said that Alex had kept his focus well and produced some excellent tennis to beat Sabau. Unfortunately Alex was unable to produce his best in rd2, making too many errors in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat to Andreas Seppi

Alex's feud with the LTA meant that he didn't receive a wildcard for Queens or Nottingham. Alex battled his way through qualifying for Nottingham, beating Dan Kiernan in the final round to secure a place in the main draw. He then produced the performance of his life in rd1, overcoming the giant 6ft6in Swede Joachim Johansson, 7-5, 6-4 in 75 minutes. Johansson was ranked 262 places above Bogdanovic and has one of the biggest serves and forehand in the men's game.
After his victory, Bogdanovic hit back at the LTA in his press conference over their "lack of commitment" accusation. "I will sit down and talk it over with the LTA after Wimbledon," he said. "They said it was for a lack of commitment but I was basically ill. I had food poisoning and I had a fever and was shaking and they wanted me to travel to Greece the next day. "I think the accusation was a bit unfair because I've been working hard, especially in the gym and off-court."

Alex was awarded a wildcard for Wimbledon as his ranking was inside the top 300 by their deadline. Unfortunately he was given the toughest rd1 draw possible, facing top seed and reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion Roger Federer in rd1.
Speaking after the draw was made, Bogdanovic said he was determined to prove the LTA wrong "I want to show that this is where I belong and write off the past. I was dropped for missing a tournament through food poisoning and that hurt but it's made me work even harder."
He insisted that a shock victory is possible "It's everybody's dream to play on the Centre Court - it's the best court in the world and to play there at the age of 20 can only be good for the future. I wasn't even expecting a wildcard and now I'm up against the world number one and defending champion. Obviously it's a tough match but I'm going to go out and try to take my chances. Everybody has their bad days and, if I do what I can do, you never know what might happen."

Alex was beaten 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 by Federer but he remained impressively composed throughout the match against his illustrious opponent and at 3-2 in the 2nd set he had two points to break the Federer serve. However, the world no 1 quickly averted the danger and won 8 out of the next 9 games to seal the match

Alex with Lee Childs at the Manchester Challenger, Alex won his first challenger title here on the Didsbury grass, beating Slovakia's Michal Mertinak in the final 6-1, 6-3.
Everything has turned round since I got a wildcard for Wimbledon - before that I was struggling, and my confidence was low," said Bogdanovic. "But though I lost to Roger Federer in the first round (at Wimbledon), I took a lot of positives out of the match. I've been a different player since."

Alex in action during his quarter-final and semi-final matches which he won 6-2, 6-3 against Mark Hilton and 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 against Lovro Zovko. These matches were played indoors due to persistent rain
